Job Description

Overview:

The YMCA of Northern Colorado is looking for responsible and energetic individual and small group Personal Trainers . You will help to support your clients' safety and training goals while leading them in appropriate activities. As a YMCA staff member, you'll provide excellent service to members in a positive environment that promotes wellness and engagement.

The salary range is $22.00-35.00 per hour based on experience/availability. We have 3 levels of qualifications with ascending pay ranges.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement and instruct a variety of personal training and small group training sessions for members. Provide encouragement and expertise for the client in support of their health and well-being goals.
  • Administer, track and evaluate health history questionnaires, fitness assessments and other pre-participation documentation with regard to individual exercise programs.
  • Adhere to all guidelines and expectations which include but is not limited to providing safe sessions and responding to and reporting any accidents or incidents.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Nationally Accredited Personal Training Certification such as the
    • American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)
    • American Council on Exercise (ACE)
    • National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)
    • National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM)
    • or other approved and accredited certifications.
  • Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/PR, First Aid, AED, and Oxygen.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills and verbal communication skills.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/FUNCTIONAL ATTRIBUTES

General Physical Requirements

  • Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. 

Physical Activities List

  • Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion. 
  • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount and kind of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium. 
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees. 
  • Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine. 
  • Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet. 
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. 
  • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time. 
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another. 
  • Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward. 
  • Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion. 
  • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles. 
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. 
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and make fine discriminations in sound.
  • Repetitive Motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. 

Visual Acuity

  • The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws and mills where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach; performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc.

  • The worker is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
